FROM PAGES TO PLAY: WORDS COME ALIVE THROUGH STORIES

This month we’ve been reading “Can You See What I See? Dinosaurs” with Titus focusing on The Basic – Read and Discuss Stories. Reading the book is more than just flipping pages—it’s about making the prehistoric world come alive!

To keep Titus engaged, we create our own dino adventures, sometimes drawing and naming our own dinosaurs. We do hands-on activities, like making hand dinosaur figures, bringing the book to life. We ask questions like, “Can you find the T. rex? Or Which dinosaur is your favorite?” We find a way to relate the different books to real life. Specifically for this book, we ask “Do you remember seeing the T-Rex at the Science Center.”

The book is part of our nightly routine – repetition helps reinforce learning, and we embrace rereading our favorite stories. We encourage him to say some words or phrases with you while reading, which will build his vocabulary over time. Storytime strengthens our bond and fosters a love for books.
